Real Madrid Survives Extra Time Thriller to Reach Copa del Rey Final

The Santiago Bernabéu witnessed an electrifying match in the second leg of the Copa del Rey 2025 semifinals. Real Madrid and Real Sociedad played to an exciting 4-4 draw, with Madrid advancing thanks to their 1-0 victory in the first leg at Anoeta. Despite defensive mistakes, Carlo Ancelotti’s team fought back in extra time to secure a spot in the grand final.

Eight-Goal Thriller Keeps Fans on Edge

Real Madrid’s goals came from Endrick, Bellingham, Tchouaméni, and Rüdiger, while Real Sociedad led at different moments with goals from Barrenetxea, an own goal by Alaba, and two strikes from Oyarzabal.

Young Brazilian star Endrick continued his impressive form, scoring to match Julián Álvarez as the tournament’s top scorer. After several attempts, including a spectacular bicycle kick, Real Sociedad struck first in the 16th minute when Barrenetxea converted a pass from Kubo.

Madrid responded quickly, with Endrick equalizing in the 30th minute after a great assist from Vinicius Jr. From then on, the match turned into a thrilling exchange of goals and drama.

Second Half Filled with Tension

In the second half, Real Sociedad took the lead again after a misfortunate own goal by David Alaba in the 72nd minute. Oyarzabal then extended the lead to 1-3, as his shot deflected off Alaba into the net.

Madrid reacted immediately. In the 82nd minute, Bellingham scored with a volley after another Vinicius assist. Just five minutes later, in the 87th minute, Tchouaméni made it 3-3 with a powerful header from a corner, reigniting Madrid’s hopes.

Just when it seemed Madrid had secured their place in the final, Oyarzabal struck again in injury time (90+3) with a free-kick goal, forcing the match into extra time.

Extra Time and Madrid’s Ticket to the Final

Fatigue was evident in extra time, and although Real Sociedad tried to hold on, Madrid dominated possession. Finally, in the 115th minute, Rüdiger sealed the match with a powerful header from a corner, securing the 4-4 draw and sending Real Madrid to the Copa del Rey final.

With this victory, Real Madrid moves closer to the title, while Real Sociedad exits the tournament with pride after an unforgettable battle. Madrid now awaits their opponent in the final, which will be decided between Atlético Madrid and Barcelona.
